Trevor NextGen is a volunteer division of The Trevor Project whose main goals include raising awareness and promoting the growth of Trevor's programs through outreach and fundraising events in the community. One such event includes our annual Fall Fête which was emceed by Avenue Q's John Tartaglia, and featured music by DJ Lina. The evening included live musical entertainment by Anthony Rapp from the original Broadway cast of Rent, upscale silent auction items, a deluxe raffle ticket prize, and of course a hosted bar.

Happy National Coming Out Day!

Today is National Coming Out Day, an annual celebration of ones self-identifaction as a member of the LGBTQI community by "coming out" of the proverbial closet. Founded in 1988 to promote progress through visibility, we as a community have come a very long way in our quest towards equality. I've heard a lot of people exclaim that it seems ridiculous to have a specific day to celebrate being out, open, and proud of our sexual orientation, that our lives should be a testament to this very fact. I agree. Choosing to live openly as queer individuals encourages others to do the same and shows them that they are not alone and have a family and community that accepts and loves them for who they are.

A group of us decided to go shopping for our red carpet outfits together after we got out of rehearsal Sunday afternoon and, after making stops at our favorite shops, ultimately found the perfect gear at Nasty Pig. A huge shout out definitely goes out to those guys, we love your stuff! Duffel bag full of chains, harnesses, and other costumes in tow I made my way to Club Rebel shortly before the doors opened for VIP ticket holders and headed down to the performer dressing room where the other guys were gearing up for the red carpet.

Go Away, It's Columbus Day!

I was going through old journals and came across this gem of a piece from a blog posting I wrote in my sophomore year of high school when I just came out of the closet. It's funny how some things have changed but how a lot has, more or less, stayed the same. We, as a society, are constantly reinventing ourselves and that cannot be more true for me right now. Preach, sister! Sexuality is a thoroughly fluid entity. A friend and I were discussing sexual labels last night and he questioned my self-given label of gay. “I thought you were also sexually attracted to women?” he asked. The truth is that I definitely can be attracted to women, but I’m also attracted to men. Does that make me bisexual? Perhaps. Does it make me straight? Sure. Am I gay? Totally. To oversimplify it, I identify as gay because I find myself primarily attracted to men - I guess you could say I’m homoflexible. All these labels, all these people, and so little time to truly dive into it all to determine the origins of sexuality. Let’s just enjoy each others’ company - man, woman, intersex, gay, straight, bisexual, pansexual… we’re all just sexy, sexual individuals.

Thank You, Summer 2012!

This past summer was so much fun but I'm actually glad that it's drawn to a close and we have the gorgeous autumn and winter to come! After working both the Black Party and Folsom Street East this year, taking a well-deserved trip to Italy last month, and the debauchery that ensued while on my first summer out on Fire Island, I think I'm ready for another brand of excitement! Sure, the tank tops and sleeveless shirts are going to be hibernating for the next few months but that means looking damn good in some fall and winter styles.
