Popping My Broadway Cherry

It is said that you always remember your first time. Going into it, nerves and excitement fill your mind with doubts and concerns like “are they the right one?” or “what if I don’t like it?” There’s no turning back now, though – the initial apprehension slowly fades and is replaced by the exhilarating thrill of the entire experience. You can't look away. Captivated, with your mouth open in amazement, you begin to feel your heart strings being pulled and you're somewhere between tears and an ecstatic smile. You've opened yourself up and are now completely vulnerable to whatever is thrown at you. You're loving every second of it and want more, and more, and more... and then it's over. Was it good for you? I surely hope so because I had the time of my life!

2013 Tony Awards Nominations

Matilda the Musical

Nominees for the 2013 Tony Awards were announced earlier this morning with some of my favorite people and shows up for honors. The awards show will be broadcast live on CBS on Saturday, the 9th of June. Listed below are the nominees in each category and highlighted are my picks for the award. I am by no means a Broadway authority, nor am I even really a theatre critic, so my favorites to win are simply based on the reviews I've read and personal testimonials I've heard from friends and acquaintances who have seen the performances.

What Do You Mean CANCELLED?!

I have very fond memories of the very first time I attended Folsom Street East back in 2011. I was a curious college student who wanted to explore his sexuality and was giddy with excitement upon discovering an event which celebrated fetish and kink. Unprepared but willing to learn, I made my way to the avenue strip of West 28th Street between 9th and 10th Avenue where a line of bears, leathermen, and chasers was forming. Catching my breath, I walked through and took my first step into this community and brotherhood of men.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody

(L to R) Thorgy Thor, Trenton Ducati, Lady Havokk, Eli Lewis, and Tate Ryder at F* Word in Splash Bar NYC

I first started go-go dancing at the age of sixteen (I was a wily one then, too) in Los Angeles, shortly after I came out of the closet. I wanted to know what this whole 'being gay' thing was all about so I would constantly explore San Diego's gayborhood, Hillcrest, to try to find myself. What I found were a lot of wandering eyes and lingering glances. Did I have something on my face? I tried to enter one of the local gay bars and was immediately stopped at the door, "You can't come in." Why not, I asked. "I know for a fact that you're underage. I saw you in the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet just last month. Nice try, though - and great lines!" It was clearly time for plan B.

No, I will NOT lower my rate!

"That's a bit pricey for me. Do you offer discounted rates?" Try asking that question to your phone company, local grocery store, or landlord, and get back to me when the answer is yes. We've all received variations of that question before, sometimes with an explanation as to why they're asking for or deserve a lower price. The most entertaining of which include requests from birthday boys, college students, and the self-entitled. While I love the bonus income, I'm not exactly hurting for more clients, and neither are any other escorts with whom I've had this conversation so it begs to ask the question, did you really think that was going to work?

The Three S's of the Sex Industry: Stereotypes, Stigma, and Shaming

This is how I start my mornings.

There are a lot of misconceptions regarding sex work and the porn industry which only serve to fuel to the ongoing stigma and shaming of those who are part of that world. I am very open about what I do and who I am so when people ask me under hushed breath if I'm an escort I raise an eyebrow at them and respond with another question, "why are we talking with our library voices?" It's not necessarily something that I have tattooed to my forehead, but my friends and family know and if you ask me I won't deny it - why should I?

2013 Black Party at Roseland Ballroom

I am still recovering from Black Party weekend last week, y'all! I went straight home after the Black Party Expo ended and was able to get a two hour nap in before I had to return to Roseland Ballroom for hair and make up for the opening performance. I showed up and saw my name at the top of the make up schedule: ELI LEWIS - TRANNY. When notified of my role as the lead tranny hooker giving blowjobs to several porn stars in the lobby I thought other would join me in drag but apparently I was going to be flying solo.
